The Power of Prayer.
What does praying do?
The Bible makes clear statements about prayer. It is a vital element of a relationship with Jesus, who promises that He hears us and responds:
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15).
This passage is so powerful - not only is the Creator of the universe constantly listening to us, but He also promises to respond. The Wall of Answered Prayer is gathering one million stories of answered prayer; one million examples of the power of prayer.
We need only ask…
The Bible teaches us that the Holy Spirit lives in us, guiding & growing us in our walk with Jesus. God’s promise to answer our prayers is further portrayed in the Gospel of Luke:
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (Luke 11:9-13)
We have a generous Father who has given us a close friend and comforter in the Holy Spirit. As we align ourselves with God and ask for our wants and needs in the power of the Holy Spirit, He will respond; He will provide; He will open the door.

The Persistent Widow
Jesus often taught in parables. One of these tales which illustrates the power of persistent prayer depicts a widow seeking justice against an adversary. She takes her case to an unjust judge who is not interested and dismisses her, yet she refuses to give up.
“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’
And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?”’ (Luke 18:4-7)
Even the unjust judge fights for justice due to the widow’s persistence. How much more will our righteous, loving Father listen to us as we persist in crying out to Him? We do not have to convince God to help us, or wear Him down until He wearily gives in.
God loves us dearly and wants to bring His justice into our lives. Let’s trust Him and His perfect timing as we persistently seek Him in prayer.
