Answered Prayer #12372

God opened up the conversation I had prayed for
I wanted to be sure if my elderly father believed in God. Mum died in 1996 and I knew she was a Christian. They were wonderful, loving parents but Dad had never really spoken about his beliefs. He had had a very strict Welsh chapel upbringing and had to attend chapel three times every Sunday. He has been registered blind for many years now, due to his age. As a young man he was in the army during WW2 and has more recently been awarded the Legion d'Honneur for his involvement in wartime Europe with intercepting and gathering coded information in the Signals. I prayed that God would give me an opportunity to talk to Dad about what he believed. One day, I went to visit him to enable my stepmum to pop out for an hour. As I walked into the sitting room with our cups of tea I just knew that this was the opportunity God had provided for us to talk. I started by talking about a friend's recent loss of her son, following a car accident, and God opened up the conversation I had prayed for. Dad said that he knew 'someone' had always been watching over him throughout his life and that he always prayed every day. We talked about heaven and that it was real and we hugged while I cried! I thanked God for His grace and mercy as I knew he had answered my prayer. Dad is still with us at 96 years old.
